The DOT rules allow the use of oral fluid specimens for federal drug testing beginning June 1, 2023.
However, it is also required that at least two laboratories get approval from HHS for this type of testing before testing may actually begin, so hang tight and stay tuned!

You understand that you must not start conducting DOT specimen collections until you have successfully completed both the online procedures training course and the federally-required “Proficiency Demonstration” (which consists of completing five, specific error-free mock collections under the observation of a qualified monitor/trainer.

Collector students MUST complete procedures training (Component 1) prior to the hands-on, proficiency demonstration training (Component 2).

Regulations Reminder
The DOT requires that Specimen Collectors repeat their training every five years — both parts of qualification training: Rules and regulations training along with training on proper collection procedures and documentation in all collection situations. The proficiency demonstration (5 mock collections).
The online Procedures Course is self-paced, but takes the average user about 4 hours to complete.
